🍄 Moving forward with solutions

Ever found yourself knowing the direction you want to move in, but somehow, you don’t seem to move forward?

Days, weeks, and months slip by, and you realise that you haven’t taken any action, and are still no closer to where you want to go.

It’s like standing on the edge of a pool, knowing you want to dive in, but just hovering there, no closer to being in the water.

There can be many reasons for this. We might lack the knowledge or confidence to take steps forward. We might lack the time to focus on it. It might be that we not have prioritised it, and the days slip by.

But, rather than remaining stagnant, how can we move forward?

Rather than spiralling into guilt, self-blame or frustration for our lack of progress, how can we look for openings to take those steps towards what we know is important?

One way is to remain focused on solutions.

For example, let’s say you know you should be exercising more regularly (or at all). But despite recognizing this, weeks go by, and it still doesn’t happen.

Rather than feeling guilt, we can look for ways to overcome the obstacles. We can look for solutions. And we can do this by asking solution-focused questions.

If it is because we are busy, we can ask:
How can we find or make time? Where in our schedule can we fit it? Can we book ourselves into a regular class so that it becomes prioritised?

If it is because we lack knowledge or confidence, we can ask:
Would it be useful to hire a trainer until we feel more confident? Can we educate ourselves through a book or a class? Or could I follow along with a video workout?

If the task seems too big or overwhelming, we can ask:
What is one small step I could take that would move me closer? Can I break it down?

With psychedelics?

I’ve found that the most common barriers to people successfully implementing psychedelics into their lives are practical.

1. Time:
People find it difficult to prioritise making time for experiences. One solution is to book a day and just stick with it. Guard that appointment in your calendar. It doesn’t have to be soon—it could even be at some point within the next year.

2. Sourcing:
Legal restrictions vary around the world, and access to psychedelic medicines is still limited. They are difficult to come by. Is there anyone you know who you could ask about this? Could you grow your own? This is often not as hard as people imagined, and is a viable solution for many.

3. Confidence and Knowledge:
Some people lack the confidence to begin using psychedelics. One option is to speak to an experienced psychedelic coach or guide. Or enroll in a course of learning and get the education you need for the next step.

-

Whatever it is we feel stuck with, we can look at the barriers and look for solutions to move around them. Or over them, or through them—however, it works.

Usually, we can find a way, and we can move forward rather than staying stagnant.

And once we start moving, it’s often surprising how the small steps add up. Before we know it, we’re in a different position—a new situation. A new reality.

So, what direction do you want to head in? What are the barriers? And how might you find solutions?
