🍄 Moving towards what you've been avoiding

On the weekend, I tried this exercise from the latest Zen Habits article. It’s called ‘Turning Towards a Task You’ve Been Avoiding for Weeks

Here’s the simplified version:

  1. You bring to mind something you’ve been avoiding. One thing.
  2. You sit with the feelings that arise when you do this and acknowledge them. Breathe.
  3. Remember why this task is important to you.
  4. Then, when you feel ready, you take one small action to address it.
  5. When done, celebrate your practice!

It’s a simple practice. But just like with psychedelic journeys and growth, it’s crucial to move towards things that make us uncomfortable.

Recognising them, sitting with them, and being with them are huge parts of this process.

I recommend giving it a try. Even blocking out 30 minutes or an hour to see how it goes.

I did this and a few days later—unbelievably—I’ve now filed my taxes way ahead of time. I did it myself (with the help of bookkeeping software and AI, but still, I did it).

This is a task I used to dread so much that since running my own business, I’ve paid an accountant to handle it (honestly where is the education about this stuff in schools? I digress). Well, this year, the accountant’s price went up a lot, and I thought, hell, I’ll do it myself.

And now, it’s done! It feels amazing to have it off my plate, and it’s really cleared my mind. Yes, clearing, another key psychedelic prep practice (read the blog post on Clearing for Preparation here)

Not only that, it feels really empowering. I am capable of doing it!
Isn’t that always the case when we do something we once felt incompetent or unequipped to do? It’s like, I can do it!

Still reading? Block some time or give it a go already!

Hit reply and let me know how it goes for you :)

🎵Psychedelic Supplements

Gv Freeman has put out this Psychedelic Success Framework Cheat Sheet. I haven't had a chance to check it out properly yet but looks promising!

Need a song to dance to for celebrating moving towards what you've been avoiding? Maybe, Woman by Karen O and Danger Mouse (the groove, the groove). I also just discovered this awesome Spike Jonze-directed video performance of it.

KO is such an icon, used to have a huge crush on her (well, still do!)

And a quote I liked from an unlikely source:

“Sometimes which choice you make is not as important as
making a choice and committing to it”
